This new seasonal release from Whiskey Acres is accurately described on the label as Christmas in a bottle. We couldnt agree more. Nocino is a style of liqueur made with un-ripened walnuts, in this case they were grown at the Morton Arboretum, part of an ongoing collaboration between it and the distillery. On the nose apple curd comes to mind, with a flaky butter crust, caramelized walnut, dark chocolate, and sweet holiday spices. The flavors from the nose persist but a distinct walnut note emerges with the array of baking spices. The finish is still Christmas heavy, but Walnut is in charge and nobody is complaining.
