A German herbal liqueur made to a recipe passed down through the Borgmann family, whom trace the history of this drink all the way back to 1772, when the Duke of Braunschweig appointed them as “privileged” court apothecaries. If we fast forward to 1976, Mr and Mrs Borgmann come up with the current formulation for Borgmann 1772, though it’s said it was being produced for long before that. The recipe features the intense herbal notes of cinchona bark, cloves, cinnamon and more. Powerfully flavoursome when enjoyed neat, though surprisingly versatile in cocktails.

Nose: Full-bodied aroma.

Palate: A splendid taste with a warm feel to it. Not to smoky but silky smooth.

Finish: Quite rich and lovely smooth texture.
