This silver mezcal from Autntico Alacrn (Spanish for “authentic scorpion”) is distilled from 100% agave espadin. It’s produced by Master Distiller Don Lucio Morales at Integradora Comercial Ejutla S.A. de C.V. (NOM O96X) in San Dionisio, Oaxaca. The flask-shaped bottle is frosted; the spirit within is made from agaves cooked in earthen pits, crushed with a tahona wheel and double-distilled in copper pot stills.

Alacran Espadin Joven 46% Mezcal Tasting Notes

Nose: The Scorpion announces its presence warily with some smoke, hints of cured meat and whiffs of tobacco, encouraging one to approach.

Palate: On the palate, sensations become sharper: a bite of woody smoke, amplified by dried citrus peel and Mexican oregano.

Finish: Having done its deed, the stinger withdraws to allow for a banked-heat finish that is unexpectedly (and deceptively) pretty.
