This isn’t as concentrated as either the Blanchards or the Millandes, but it’s got slightly better depth and persistence. Patience required however.

• Vinous: The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis Aux Chezaux 1er Cru perhaps does not convey the same cohesion as Arlauds other Premier Crus at the moment, a little earthier and more broody. The palate is sweet and ripe with rounded black cherries and crme de cassis notes, though it needs a little more precision and terroir expression on the finish.

Domaine Arlaud is a family-owned wine producer based in Morey-Saint-Denis, in Burgundy’s Cte de Nuits subregion. Also known as Domaine Arlaud Pre & Fils, it is best known for its Pinot Noir vineyards both in Morey and in neighboring Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin. These include holdings in the Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Charmes-Chambertin, and Bonnes-Mares grand cru sites.In 1949, Joseph Arlaud acquired vineyard land as a wedding gift and, over time, was able to extend the family holdings and purchase the estate’s headquarters a 14th-Century cellar in Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1966. Vinification and barrel-aging, however, take place in a modern cellar in Morey-Saint-Denis.Joseph Arlaud was succeeded by son Herv and wife Brigitte in 1982. Latterly, their children, Cyprien, Romain and Bertille, have all taken a hand in the running of the estate with Cyprien taking over management in 2013.
