This whisky initially spent 20 years in hand-selected refill casks before being transferred to mature in Sauternes wine casks for a further a year. Malt Master Stephanie Macleod remarks on this whisky: When finishing whiskies, I want to complement the distillery character. Aberfeldy has a glorious honeyed richness, and with this expression, I wanted to add a further layer of flavour complexity, and enhance the maturing malt but not mask it. The Sauternes wine cask helps highlight Aberfeldys sweet notes of honey and brings golden syrup balanced with citrus peel, peaches and almonds.

Distillery Information

Aberfeldy Distillery was founded by the John Dewar & Sons, Ltd. in 1896, and opened in 1898. Aberfeldy Distillery is nestled within a lush valley in the foothills of the Central Highlands of Scotland, known as the golden dram the distillerys water source is the famous Pitilie burn renowned locally for its water quality and famed for its deposits of alluvial gold. Time honoured techniques such as longer fermentation conjures rare honeyed notes key to the signature sweetness of Aberfeldys malts.
