The George T.Stagg releases are becoming legendary. This 2009 bottling was double distilled in the Spring of 1990 from Kentucky Corn, Minnesota Rye and North Dakota Malted Barley. The Whiskey was found on the eighth floor of Warehouse I with 89 barrels being bottled without filtration after sixteen years and three months maturation. Nearly 60% of the original spirit was lost to evaporation. The result is yet another classic Stagg expression. Named World Whiskey of the Year three years in a row by famed Whiskey writer Jim Murray.
Nose: Crisp, almost brittle with toasted almonds at the fore. Also notes of fig and cigar box. Spicy.
Palate: Creamy, espresso, very nutty, dark fruits, the taste of an unlit cigar.
Finish: Peppery, cinnamon, caramel.
Buffalo Trace Distillery is the oldest continually operating distillery in the United States and includes the rich legacies of master distillers such as E.H. Taylor, Jr, George T. Stagg, Albert B. Blanton, Orville Schupp and Elmer T. Lee. Today, the distillery is still family-owned, operating on the same 130 acres of land adjacent the Kentucky River as it has for over 200 years.
