Amaro is Italian for bitter, and Nardini Amaro is a traditional bittersweet Italian aperitivo, principally flavoured with bitter orange, peppermint and gentian. A chance appearance on the HBO TV drama series The Sopranos did not hurt U.S. sales where Amaro is now one of Nardini best-selling products.

Flavoured principally with bitter orange, peppermint and gentian, Nardini’s Amaro is widely-acclaimed in the north-east of Italy as the finest example of the genre. Enjoyed straight up, or with ice and soda, bitter-sweet Amaro is intensely flavoured, with the peppermint well forward and a delightful liquorice-like aftertaste. The latter is largely due to gentian, a root-based ingredient long-appreciated for its digestive qualities.
Nose: Aromatic and rooty with liquorice, charcoal, orange zest, chocolate, espresso and mint with tobacco leaf and a whiff of curry spice.
Palate: Bittersweet gentian, orange zest and Jaffa Cake chocolate biscuits, with aniseed, strong mint, mocha coffee, liquorice and enlivening spice.
Finish: Distinctive liquorice, mint and mocha coffee, chocolate finish with long lingering gentian and liquorice.
The original Nardini Distillery was established in 1779 near the head of the bridge in Bassano del Grappa in the Veneto region. This location was chosen for its ample water supply which is essential for distilling and also its easy distribution through the series of rivers and canals. Over the years, the distillery has witnessed several battles, the collapse of the Venetian Empire, and the Unification of Italy. Yet through all this change, Nardini has remained a family business now boasting its 7th generation leading the business forward.
