This is being released as a vertical over the next few years, starting at the 20 year old mark and then followed in succession by a 21 and so forth until they release the last batch as a 25 year old bourbon. That is right, six releases of a bourbon that is aged one year apart, 20 to 25 years. This will be an exciting expedition in bourbon maturation.

Rhetoric 20 Year Old Bourbon is part of the Orphan Barrel Project and is the first of the annual Rhetoric bottlings which are released progressively to show what extended ageing will do to a control batch’ of familiar tasting bourbon. Distilled in 1994, these barrels were reportedly found in the old Stitzel-Weller warehouses.

Orphan Barrel Rhetoric 20 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Tasting Notes

Nose: Sweet oak smokiness, caramel, vanilla and a hint of rye.

Palate: Oak, spice, vanilla and caramel.

Finish: Oak smoke, spice, medium to long finish, cherry pipe tobacco, smooth and easy sipping.
