This hallmark 23 Year expression begins with freshly-distilled sugarcane laid into used American Oak bourbon whiskey casks initially for 3 years before a 20-year finishing in used Tennessee and Canadian rye whiskey casks that have been toasted, not charred. The interplay between these barrels maintains the desired balance between the rums intrinsic qualities and the characteristics introduced by the oak.

Panam-Pacific Rum is named for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, which celebrated the completion of the Panama Canal and the rebuilding of post-earthquake San Francisco. Distilled at the famed Ingenio San Carlos (Las Cabras) distillery, the rum is initially rested in Kentucky bourbon casks for three years. Rum selections that are approved for an extended maturation are transferred into exhausted Tennessee whiskey barrels for further aging. Panam-Pacific notes that the age statement reflects the youngest rum in the blend, not just a portion of it.

Nose: On the nose, there are initial notes of vanilla, molasses and caramel, along with pineapple and oak.

Palate: The palate is buttery and filled with bittersweet notes of green apples, pineapple, dried wood and salt water taffy, and leads to an impeccable.

Finish: Smoky-yet-balanced finished.
