Rancho de la Luna mezcal is produced using 100% agave Angustifolia (maguey Espadin) in Santiago Matatlan, Oaxaca. The harvested plants are roasted in a conical stone over, milled by a tahona, naturally fermented in wooden vats, and double-distilled in copper pots. At one point in time the mezcal was produced by the brand Mezcal Los Javis but that relationship ended. As of 2020 it is being produced by mezcalero Carlos Mendes Blas of Cruz de Fuego and Cuentacuentos. This mezcal carries notes of fresh agave, clove, and roasted cashew.
Nose: Full-bodied aroma.
Palate: The palate is an explosion of flavors and the finish is nice.
Finish: The finish is surprisingly long and warming.
Rancho de La Luna was founded by Fred Drake and David Catching in 1993 at Joshua Tree, California. The studio is legendary for the recordings that have been produced there. The surrounding desert views and Rancho hospitality have inspired the likes of: Kyuss, Queens Of The Stone Age, Fu Manchu, earthlings?, Masters Of Reality, Chris Goss, Victoria Williams, Fatso Jetson, Mojave Lords, Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters, Eagles Of Death Metal, Iggy Pop, Mark Lanegan, Daniel Lanois, Pins, Tinariwen, Kurt Vile, The Duke Spirit, and many more.
