Down on the south coast, Salcombe Distilling Co. has gone and made its very own white spiced rum to go alongside its selection of superb gins! Whitestrand is made with molasses, unrefined sugar and a blend of yeasts, distilled in 60-litre hand-beaten copper pot stills twice – along with a selection of botanicals (including lime, coconut and long pepper) for its second run through the stills. Taking inspiration from Salcombe fruiters, which would sometimes bring home rum, molasses and sugar from the West Indies alongside its hauls of fruits and spices, this is a bright, fruit-forward expression full of citrus, banana and exotic spice.
