California’s Sonoma County Distilling Co. are well-versed in creating inventive spirits, and they’ve really gone for it with this one – Black Truffle Rye. What they’ve done here is create a rye spirit and allowed some Black Prigord truffles all the way from France to infuse into the spirit. It’s safe to say that we haven’t seen anything like this before. Very intriguing.

Sonoma County Distilling Black Truffle Rye Whiskey Tasting Notes

Nose: The truffle influence is surprisingly subtle, layering an appealing earthy aroma atop the vanilla and spice of rye whiskey.

Palate: Brown sugar, cinnamon, tobacco, an instantly-familiar earthy/mushroom-y hint of truffle builds in the background.

Finish: A long finish that coats one’s tongue and lingers warmingly.

Distillery Information

Sonoma County Distilling was founded in northern California by San Francisco native Adam Spiegel in 2010. Sonoma Distilling made the old-fashioned way in hand-made Copper Stills, using the finest in Non-GMO California grains to make their whiskies.
