Black Powder, our Navy Strength Gin, is a punchy 58% ABV making it an ideal Cocktail Gin, but still super smooth for sipping. Based on our Orchid Gin, we tinkered by bruising half the Junipers and added whole fresh lemons for a well-rounded gin with a bright citrus note. Why Black Powder? Centuries ago, a Chinese Alchemist created gunpowder. The Europeans heard about magical fireworks and exploding weapons, so they went to China in search of the Black Powder. Navy Strength Gin came from these and similar expeditions. It has to be above 57% ABV, the strength at which gin-drenched gunpowder still ignites when lit. Gin was rationed to sailors as a daily drink, so this test was frequently used to check against unscrupulous employers. An admiral solution to ensuring a great drink.

Tanglin Black Powder Gin Tasting Notes

Nose: Gentle citrus nose with a bold Juniper character and pepper note.

Palate: Velvet smooth with a juniper crispness, spicy citrus, and herbal notes, this Gin has distinct umami with a depth of flavor and a slight sweetness and warmth.

Finish: Peppery herbal notes with a gentle warmth that embraces, to produce a long and lingering ?nish that is gentle and smooth.

In 2018, Tanglin opened the First Gin distillery in Singapore. Singapore has a vibrant history as a stop on the Spice Trade Route and now ?nally its own Gin. Craft Distilleries are on the rise in Asia, from Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam to Taiwan and Japan.
